KCMC-MEPI Using Technology in Delivering Medication Education: Updates from KCMC Moshi K. Ntabaye, KCMC MEPI Principal Investigator

Overall KCMC-MEPI Goals Increase the number and quality of physicians Increase retention in underserved areas Improve capacity for regionally relevant research

KCMC Specific Aims Through a robust and integrated partnership, enhance medical education at KCMU College and KCMC by implementing creative learning approaches. To teach research skills, and to engage the interest of students in research careers. To transform the culture of teaching and learning at KCMU College and KCMC. To sustain the transformed environment beyond the period of the MEPI award.

Learning Content Management System (LCMS+) Based upon Blue Docs from Duke University MD1 and MD2 curricula fully loaded into system – MMed and MSc curricula; demand outstripping capacity! Expanding into MD3 On-line exams given Tremendous M&E tool Notice board, on-line resources, surveys 90% of MD1 students are accessing LCMS+ at least 4 days/week

MEPI Mentored Research Projects First cycle 12 proposals selected for funding Diversity of topics (Community Health 2, Infectious Diseases 4, Cancer 2, Diabetes 1, HBP 1, Head Trauma 1, Health Systems Strengthening 1) Second cycle of applications in progress

Conclusions Substantial challenges in addressing HRH needs in sub-Saharan Africa KCMC-Duke MEPI is off to a good start! Strong support from multiple entities at Duke Highly competent MEPI team at KCMC Technology can be harnessed as a great asset!
