Childhood And Family Michelle Obama had an interesting childhood. She was born on January 17th, 1964, on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. She had a mom, a dad, and a brother. But when she was very young, her father got sclerosis, a very bad disease. Pretty much all of her ancestors were slaves. When she was a little older, probably about 9, her dad was trying to find a job. He was a skilled carpenter, but nobody would let him work for them because he was black. Just so they could make a little money, her brother, Craig, was a milk boy at age 11.
Education Michelle had a very good education. Her mother and father wanted her and her brother to read more than anything. When they went to school at Bryn Mawr elementary, they both skipped second grade, a family tradition. She continued to work hard. When she got to sixth grade, she was chosen to be in a class for gifted children. She stayed in that class for seventh and eighth grade, too. Then she went to Whitney Young High school. She had to take one hour train and bus rides to and from school each day! But she continued to do great, so she was chosen to go to a college called Princeton University. She graduated from Princeton University in She decided to go to law school, she graduated from law school in 1988.
Her Jobs Michelle had many good jobs. Since she went to law school, she got a job at Sidley Austin, a top law firm. After she was done with that job, she was the executive director for an organization called the Chicago office of public Allies. When she was done with that, she worked as an Associate Dean of student services at the University of Chicago. Then she decided to work for the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was an executive director for community affairs. Michelle had many good jobs.
