YUMRUKAYA ÖZEL EĞİTİM UYGULAMA MERKEZİ

Education is not a process which is just carried out in the school environment. The family environment is the first environment in which the children gain their first experiences and interactions.

The family which has such important effects on child development should be educated in a certain framework of a program in order to be informed about child development and education issues, to be raised awareness and to be transformed what children learnt into behaviours.

Having effective and efficient educational process requires the active participation and contribution of families to the process.

The following cases reveal the reasons of the active participation and contribution of the family.

Our children are spending 80% of their time together with their families. (except bedtime)

The parents education is seen as the most effective and economical system for the child's education and development.

Parents know their children’s adequate and inadequate behaviours.

The family has an important role to pave the way of an effective environment on the child development.

Children's success at every educational level depends on not only the education received in school but also the family contribution and supportive education received at home.

Children take their families as models. Families contribute the implemention of formal programs.

Parents education has an important role on recognizing the child and being in communication and interaction with them, filling the deficiency of face to face services given, reducing the cost of education and other services and training the children to whom can not be given direct educational services.

Make the families accept the situation of the child, evaluate them objectively and understand their potential and limitations.

Clarify family's rights and responsibilities. Can the family intervene in the training programs? How and to what extent can they intervene? What should the families do? They can learn that with parental education.

Cooperate with the family. Explain the characteristics of educational programs and promote cooperation in achieving the objectives of the program. Provide family to practise the certain programs.

Turn home environment into the more efficient training environment.

Inform family about other resources such as family groups etc. Provide families’ cooperation with school.

Shock Denial Bargain Guilt Anger Depression Acception

Families with children in need of special education also have their own requirements and these requirements may change over time.

Informing family

Informing the people about children

Family functioning and social services.

We organize seminars to family for informing them about autism. This seminars organize in a periodical times. We choose a subject and we tell it to the families. In this way they will learn a lot of things about autism and they will know what they will do.

We prepared a diary form. This form contains information about students. Teachers sends this form to parents by writing what they did in school and parents send it to teacher by writing what they did at home. In this way, teachers and parents able to follow the child’s development.

Teachers sometimes going to the homes of students with talking parents. Therefore, teachers find the chance for observation students in their natural environment. They find to chance for intervene to negative behavior.

We are doing a lot of social events with our parents. You will see them in the next presentation.
