The reform forms part of broader changes to the apprenticeships system outlined in the government’s 2020 vision: Funding rules, methodology, levy and SME funding 3 million target Legislation to protect the term “apprenticeship” and target public bodies in the Enterprise Bill Introduction of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) The reform/Trailblazers applies to England only 4 Illustration by Tang Yau Hoong) LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016

To cover The options – become an Apprenticeship Assessment centre or access a high quality Provider How to make the decision In house Apprenticeship assessment centre Using a Provider – what to look for, how to choose What support is available to help you 6 LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016

The Options – to be or not to be How many employees do you employ and how many apprentices are you thinking of recruiting annually. Do you have a separate Training team who could manage the processes etc Are you already using Accredited training and employing Apprentices Do you have trained Assessors and IVs What training are you doing already If new cut your teeth with a quality provider If less than 4000 employees or recruiting less than 100 Apprentices use a quality provider 7 LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016

How to make your decision  How much levy are you going to be paying = number of Apprentices you can recruit – new starters or job changers  Do you have senior management buy in to establish an Assessment Centre for Apprenticeships  Have you been recruiting Apprentices and using a Provider and now want to take this inhouse levels 2 – 7 includes Higher and Graduate Apprenticeships  Are you looking at a range of Apprenticeship standards or just a few. 8 LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016

In house Assessment Centre – what would you need to put in place Start off by seeking the advice of experienced employer Are you waiting for new Standards or wanting to start now with SASE – many SASE frameworks will be available until 2020 (BIS website or AO websites) Speak to a range of Awarding Organisations – website will contain the process If New Apprenticeship standards do you want to offer a qualification to acknowledge the “on-programme” learning or just going for End Point Assessment Policies and Processes to manage the Training, Assessment and verification of the frameworks or new standards you want to offer. Not all Employer groups developing the new standards specified the requirement for staff involved in training and assessing to hold national standards – good practice Senior management support and commitment to resource Good AOs will offer to come out and provide advice and support to set up. 9 LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016

Using a Provider – what to look for and how to choose  Recommendation from similar employers  Ofstead reports and grades  Awarding Organisations  who will to come and speak to you  Offering to map your current training to the framework or Standards – not repeating  Involving you in the delivery and assessment – you know your staff best  You get what you pay for 10 LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016

What support is available to you.  Skills funding agency (SFA) – has a lot of guidance for employers looking to recruit and potential become an Assessment Centre  Awarding Organisations – dedicated staff  BIS website – information on New Apprenticeship Standards  Your local Providers – FE Colleges, Private Training Providers, HEIs and Universities.  There is a lot of support out there so what can Pearson offer you. 11 LAWW Webinar Series from Pearson | May 2016
