Mouse Trap Car TLA

The assignment You will design and develop a finished product (mousetrap powered car) to accomplish the approved task (total distance traveled). the product will develop during school hours only, using school tools and materials approved/provided by the Mr. Bundy. Mr. Bundy will not approve pre-manufactured products or kits. The design, finished product, and the construction process used to develop the final product will be the basis for the student mousetrap powered car portfolio. Your finished written portfolio will consists of a completed graph paper drawings, Mechanicals drawings, project timeline, grading sheet, project timelinegrading sheet Car Test results, Project Summary, and Self-Evaluation Size requirements 12”- 24” long and 2”- 4” wide

The Process Using the Task Description above as a guide, you will be required to complete the following:  Preliminary Plan in Graph Paper Form  Mechanical drawings with dimensions  Written Plan Material sheet–  Daily log of Activities - ongoing  Construction of Product –  Written Portfolio which contains: project timeline, grading sheet, Car Test results, Project Summary, and Self-Evaluation - project timeline, grading sheet You can select either three or four wheel configuration mousetrap car. The instructor will provide Mousetraps, axles, bushings, plastic CD wheels, wood, tools, and construction adhesives once written plan is submitted. Students will supply oversized or different styled wheels. You can use 2 mouse traps or 1 rat trap(supplied by you) Your racer must have some type of “gearing” by using gears, pulley, or tapered axel (cone)

Resources You may use a variety of resources to complete this project; however, since this is a Web Quest, I would like you use at least three web sites in your research. After viewing each site, please complete a web site evaluation form. You must have 3 of these forms attached to your journal worksheet. Your information must be relevant to the project; websites that are marketing mouse tap car products WILL NOT be counted. In addition to the web sites, you may use your time in the library to look at science and technology journals, magazines, and more to supplement your Internet research. I would strongly recommend you utilize a variety of resources to complete this project.

Evaluation You will be evaluated on both the process of completing the WebQuest and operation of the final product (your mousetrap car). Before you hand in your project portfolio (Written Portfolio, project timeline, grading sheet, graph paper, and mechanical drawings(front, top, &side…all dimensioned)project timelinegrading sheet Car Test, Project Summary, and Self- Evaluation), please check the following rubric to make sure you have completed each objective.

Conclusion Designing, constructing, and testing your mousetrap powered car requires a number of deliberate steps. Planning each step completely is essential skill needed to be successful. Include following in your finished written project portfolio: – Graph paper drawings – Mechanical Drawings Dimensioned – Project timeline,Project timeline – grading sheet, grading sheet – Car Test, – Project Summary, – and Self-Evaluation.

Self-evaluation and Reflection After you have completed the worksheet journal, you are to write a one paragraph, self-evaluation for each of the following questions: (in other words - you are writing THREE PARAGRAPHS) How did I use my class time? Did I waste time or use my time effectively? How did I use my Instructor and class resources to complete my project? Did classmates share information regarding web sites and other information on mousetrap cars? If I were to do this same project again, what would I do differently? While you are in the process of writing your journal, you will be evaluating web sites simultaneously. You must also turn in 3 web site evaluation forms. Click here for the web site evaluation form atweb site evaluation form at

Extension What would you do different (design improvement, different construction, etc.) to improve the distance traveled by your mousetrap car? Summarize in at least one paragraph. Turn in your report with the finish portfolio report
