Ever thought about volunteering? 19.1 million people in England formally volunteer at least once a year. (Institute for Volunteering Research)

What is volunteering? Volunteering is ‘any activity that involves spending time, unpaid, doing something that aims to benefit the environment or someone (individuals or groups) other than, or in addition to, close relatives.’ Volunteering must be a choice freely made by each individual.

Why volunteer? Volunteering can be a way of: Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience Meeting new people and making new friends Gaining confidence and self esteem Making a difference to the lives of others Helping the environment....and much more!

Where do most people volunteer? Most popular sectors are: Sport and Exercise Social clubs Schools/Education Health, Disability and Social Welfare Neighbourhood Groups Animals (Institute for Volunteering Research)

There are so many different types of volunteering opportunities available, there really is something to suit everyone. Including..... Do you know what questions to ask? What should I expect as a volunteer? Will volunteering cost me anything? How much time do I need to volunteer for? Can I leave if I don’t like it? I’m working full-time. Will I still be able to volunteer? Will I get training? Do I need qualifications? Can I get a qualification? Can I volunteer together with my family or friends? Will I need any official approval to volunteer?
