Ha!

 In the top column, above the margin, write your decision: Odysseus was HEROIC (and a great leader) Odysseus was NOT HEROIC (and a bad leader)OR

 Fold the bottom section in half, giving you two rows, 4 columns to work with. ~ My topic is here ~

 Decide on FOUR TRAITS that will prove whether Odysseus was (or was not) heroic. These go in Column 1 (2 on the front, two on the back) ~ My topic is here ~ Trait #1 Odysseus was... Trait #2 Odysseus was... ~ My topic is here ~ Trait #3 Odysseus was... Trait #4 Odysseus was... back front

 Label your other columns, front and back  #2 = Quotations, #3 = Paraphrase, #4 = Explanation ~ My topic is here ~ Trait #1 Odysseus was... Quotations = 2ParaphraseExplanation Trait #2 Odysseus was...

 These can also be called  “It Says” – “I Say” – “... And So” ~ My topic is here ~ Trait #1 Odysseus was... Quotations = 2 “It Says... ” Paraphrase “I Say...” Explanation “... And so...” Trait #2 Odysseus was...

 Fill this chart out, looking for details to support your discussion of Odysseus as hero, or not hero.  You will find TWO quotations from the text to PROVE that Odysseus really is how you describe him (two for each trait) ~ My topic is here ~ Trait #1 Odysseus was... Quotations = 2 “It Says... ” Paraphrase “I Say...” Explanation “... And so...” Trait #2 Odysseus was

 THEN – you will write a paraphrase for EACH quotation – what does the quotation MEAN?????  THEN – you will write WHY THIS MATTERS. How does YOUR QUOTATION PROVE that Odysseus is the trait? CONNECT THE DOTS. ~ My topic is here ~ Trait #1 Odysseus was... Quotations = 2 “It Says... ” Paraphrase “I Say...” Explanation “... And so...” Trait #2 Odysseus was

And so...” Trait #2 Odysseus was When your chart is filled in... read!!

 Read to your Group  Pick your BEST “argument” and read it with your group. You are reading all 4 components:  You say, “Odysseus proves he is (is not) a hero on p. ___________. It says.... I say... And so....”

Daily Participation Points: 5- BYOB!! Read the whole time. Engaged! 4- Read the majority of the time. Tried! 3-Read some of the time had to be reminded. Floundered! 1-No reading, sleeping, off task. Struggled!

 Select a NEW book that you have NEVER read before  Books w/ movies are okay... You can even see the movie!!!... But you also need to read the book.  At least 200 pages, probably more, and appropriate for your reading level  You are looking for a FICTION book, or a non-fiction biography... Not a textbook, not a topic (“auto mechanics”)... You will need to discuss STORY STRUCTURE and CHARACTER.  If you finish this book before the end of the quarter, you will select another book and KEEP READING  There WILL be a book talk (slightly diff)... We’ll discuss later.
