Welcome Welcome to William Cappel Elementary Kindergarten. It is our desire that your child’s first year in school be successful and rewarding. Creating a positive learning experience is a full-time job for teachers and parents. We recognize that YOU are the most important person in your child’s life and anticipate your cooperation and support as we work together, as a team, for your child’s academic success. Meet Mrs. Knaust Hello! I am so excited to work with you and your child this year! Teaching is an absolute passion of mine and I cannot wait to get this school year started. Here is a little about me. I am married to my wonderful husband Doug. Together we have a son (Evan) who is 15 months old. They take up most of my free time but some hobbies I enjoy are fishing, crafting, and reading. I have lived in Moscow Mills all of my life. I went to Troy Buchanan High School and graduated from Lindenwood University in This will be my sixth year teaching Kindergarten at William Cappel Elementary. I absolutely LOVE teaching Kindergarten. It is a mission of mine to instill a love of learning within my students.

Take Home Folders On your child’s desk is your child’s Take Home Folder. It will be sent home every night with your child. On the right it contains papers that stay at home. It may include newsletters, notes, menus, graded work, etc. You will find things that need to be returned to school on the left side of the folder. This may include homework, unfinished work, notes that need to be signed, etc. This folder will travel with your child every day. Please check this folder nightly and help your child take good care of it. This will help your child learn organization skills and help him/her to always be prepared.

Weekly Newsletter and Homework Every Monday we will send home a newsletter in your child’s take home folder. The newsletter will allow you to see what we are currently learning in the classroom. We encourage you to read the newsletter and ask your child questions about what they are learning each week. If you lose or misplace your newsletter, you can find it on your child's teachers web page. Homework for the week is attached to the newsletter. Please work with your child to complete it. Homework is due every Friday. If you have questions about your child’s homework, please contact your child’s teacher.

Arrival, Dismissal, and Absences Arrival Students may arrive at 8:15. Classes begin at 8:40. Students who are not eating breakfast will go to their classroom. Students who are eating breakfast will go straight to the cafeteria first, and then go to their classroom. Dismissal School is dismissed at 3:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. Wednesday is our early out day. Students are dismissed at 2:30. They may be picked up in the cafeteria at 2:35 on Wednesday. Car riders may be picked up in the cafeteria at 3:35 the rest of the week. Remember to bring your ID when picking up your child. Please be consistent with arrival and dismissal times each day. Kindergarten students feel secure knowing daily dismissal routines. If you must change, please let the office know before 2:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. Please let the office know before 1:00 on Wednesday. There will be no checkouts after 3:15. Absences Contact the school if your child is or will be absent. The attendance policy is located in the school handbook. Please give this section special attention. Per school policy, you will receive a phone call from your child’s teacher if they have a total of 5 unverified absences. After your child's 8 th unverified absence you will be referred to Division of Family Services. Send a Doctor’s note with your child when she/he returns verifying the absence.

Schedule Students may arrive between 8:15 – 8:40 Students purchasing breakfast need to be at school no later than 8:25 Morning Meeting -Monday and Friday- Students go to the gym. Tardy bell rings at 8:40 Kindergarten lunch is 11:20-11:45 (MTTHF) 11:25-11:50 (Wednesday) Specials Car riders maybe picked up in the Cafeteria. (Please remember to bring your ID when picking up your student.) Every Wednesday will be an early-out day. Students will be dismissed at 2:30

Breakfast & Lunch Eating breakfast allows children to focus on their learning and not on being hungry. (Breakfast is served daily between 8:15 and 8:35.) Students may purchase breakfast at school for $ 1.65 Lunch is served at 11:20-11:45. The price of a school lunch is $2.70. You may check your child’s parent portal to view their lunch account balance. Please pay careful attention to your child’s lunch account balance. Students with a negative balance will be given a sunbutter and jelly sandwich and milk. Free and Reduced Meal Applications are available in the office. You may eat lunch with your child at the parent tables in the back of the lunch room. Please remember that for our students safety you may only eat with your child.

Transportation Transportation changes must be made through the school office. You can reach the school office at Keep your school contact information updated for your child, so we can ensure that they get home safely. Check-in with me before you leave to make sure your child’s dismissal transportation is correct. If a student doesn't have a bus number listed they are not on a bus roster and will not be allowed to ride a bus. –If your child’s PM transportation is incorrect or you need to make changes please see the office before you leave tonight.

Classroom Expectations/PBIS Respectful Responsible Safe Our school wide discipline program is called PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support). Students are given warnings and if the behavior continues they will be asked to visit the Chill Zone. In the Chill Zone students will think about the choices they made and when they are ready to make better choices they may join the rest of the class. A behavior slip will be sent home when a student has to visit the Chill Zone.
