We hope that this will give you a good, full perspective on Arkansas Children’s Hospital as well as Little Rock and the state of Arkansas. We’re glad that you chose to interview with us. Doing residency here was one of the best decisions I ever made. Coming from a very hands on medical school, I knew that I learned from doing and seeing. Here we get an amazing amount of experience performing procedures and taking care of very sick children both in the ER and ICU setting. Also, Little Rock has been a great place to live, both affordable and safe, as well as a lot of fun. Interns will spend one month of “Behavior & Development” at the Dennis Developmental Center, located three blocks from the main hospital

My Pediatric residency experience at UAMS/ACH was wonderful. Everyone there made me feel at home. I made friendships that will last a lifetime. Clinical Exam Rooms The PULSE Center has four clinical exam rooms that look just like a typical exam room found in any physician's office. However, PULSE exam rooms are also outfitted with one-way glass, pan/tilt video cameras and audio monitoring equipment to enable professors and trainers to evaluate students' interaction with standardized patients.standardized patients Observation Rooms Adjacent to each exam room is an observation room that allows direct, real-time, yet unobtrusive evaluation of standardized patient encounters. Simulation Theaters The PULSE Center has two fully-equipped medical simulation theaters for use with the SimBaby and SimMan manikins. The theaters are controlled by a central simulation control center where our simulation specialist can create a variety of scenarios to help medical students, emergency responders, nursing students and other health care professionals further develop their skills in a controlled environment.SimBaby SimMan Debriefing Rooms The PULSE Center has two debriefing rooms for post-simulation meetings. These high-tech meeting rooms feature widescreen televisions and fully networked video playback systems to allow for a full breakdown of the simulation and additional teaching related to what happened in the simulation. Trainers and observers can even watch the simulation unfold on the television through the closed- circuit video system. Simulation Central The Simulation Theaters are driven by a simulation specialist that controls the manikins and the scenarios to be carried out in the simulation experience. This control room allows the simulation specialist to monitor the simulation manikins and change the scenario in real time as the training happens.

Our patients come from all corners of the state. When their parents are unable to stay with them, the parents love being able to see their baby using a secured internet site. The cameras are operated at the discretion of the medical staff.

I went to school here at UAMS, but I was very open to move away for residency. During my interview process, I found myself comparing all the other programs to this one... thinking to myself "we have that at ACH" or "our so and so is better than the one here." About halfway through the season, I figured if no place compared to home, then maybe home is where I needed to be. I have not regretted that decision a single day during my residency. Personal Trainers are available for an extra reasonable fee. Boot Camp and other classes are held periodically and are either free or $5/class.

Our residents frequently participate in ping pong, wallyball, volleyball, racquetball and basketball free throw tournaments.

Although it’s not free, Child Enrichment Center the Child Enrichment Center is a daycare option available for residents’ children (space permitting) between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. The center has resident friendly hours of operation (6:15am to 7:30pm) and is within one block of the hospital. *Please note that there is a wait list for young babies.* More info is available at or by phone at

moonlight on the transport team. After meeting certifying requirements, 2 nd & 3 rd year residents can moonlight on the transport team. Work-hour rules still apply, but this can be a great opportunity to make a little extra money (unless you’re afraid of heights!).

intern retreat Each fall our interns spend three days and two nights away from campus at an intern retreat. Not only does this time strengthen the bonds of the class, it also provides a nice respite after the first couple of months of internship!

This past year we added a PGY-2 retreat too!
