The Sumatran Orangutan By Kyle Feather

Habitat The habitat of the Sumatran Orangutan the the rainforest. They live in the rainforest for the trees because they eat and live in trees.

Reproduction The way the Sumatran Orangutan reproduces is once it is fifteen it can reproduce and an Sumatran Orangutan female gives birth usually every eight to ten years.

Diet The diet of the Sumatran Orangutan is it eats leaves, termites, and ants.

Predator/Prey Relationship The Sumatran Orangutan is at the top of the food chain in its predator prey relationship.

Consumer/Producer? The Sumatran Orangutan is a consumer (2 nd level) because it eats ants that eat plants that take energy from the sun.

Threats/Human Interactions One of the threats that the Sumatran Orangutan has to face is that it is running out of space from humans cutting down their rainforests.

Biotic/Abiotic Factors Some biotic factors that affect the Sumatran Orangutan are leaves, ants, trees, and termites. Some abiotic factors that affect the Sumatran Orangutan are water, air, temperature, and sunlight.

Limiting Factors Some of the limiting factors that limit the Sumatran Orangutan population are space for them so live in and food.

Orangutan Population at Present The population of the Sumatran Orangutan is around seven- thousand three-hundred.

Ability to Adapt The Sumatran Orangutan’s ability to adapt is shown when the Sumatran Orangutan has learned to live almost completely in trees because they can move faster through the trees than on the ground

Why is an Orangutan a Butterfly Species? The Sumatran Orangutan is a butterfly species because if there were no Sumatran Orangutans then the population of the ant and termite population would increase and therefore would unbalance the populations leading to other species that are found exclusively found on the island to go extinct.

Five Interesting Facts There have been an estimated decline in Sumatran Orangutans in the past 75 years by more than 75%.
