The Simple Past Tense is used to talk about events and actions that happened at a definite time in the past. SIMPLE PAST TENSE * Some signal words of the Simple Past are: last night / month / week, yesterday, two weeks ago...

AFFIRMATIVE FORM Look at the chart. PERSONAL PRONOUNVERBS I YOU HE SHE IT WE YOU THEY played

E.g.: WATCH – WATCHED PLAY – PLAYED WORK – WORKED There are some verbs which are called REGULAR VERBS. SIMPLE PAST TENSE All of them end in “ED” in the past form.

Verbs ending in “Y” preceeded by a consonant -Y + IED E.g. John studied hard yesterday. SIMPLE PAST TENSE * Depending on the verb, it’s added “IED”.

SIMPLE PAST TENSE There are other verbs which are called IRREGULAR VERBS, because they don’t follow any rules. Each one is different from the other. E.g. go – went eat – ate

In the negative form, it’s necessary to use the auxiliary DIDN’T.
