Ecozones By: Oriana Brine, Kyle DeBenetti, Sam Kim

What are Ecozones? Ecozones are used to classify different types of land in different places. Such things that are used to find this information are -Landforms -Soils -Vegetation -Climate -Water -Wildlife -How much humans effect that area are ways to distinguish between the areas. Not until recently, Canada has used ecozones to categorize and divide Canada into different geological regions. There are many different kinds of ecozones in Canada.

Why are they useful? Ecozones are useful because they help with the organization of different natural environments. There are an uncountable number of different types of land in Canada. There are around fifteen different kinds of ecozones in Canada. Before the creation of ecozones, the different landform information, climate data, and population characteristics were grouped into separate places. Now all of these characteristics can be connected together so that these characteristics can be grouped together to find information about the different regions of land in Canada. All the information about a certain area can be put into one area.

How do Ecozones help in tourism? Ecozones help tourism because.. -The federal government can assist directing certain groups of people in directions they think that different groups of people will go. -Guides can talk about different aspects of the land to different kinds of visiters. -Tourists can find out about the different kind of areas that they would prefer to visit in Canada. -It can help the tourist industry to have a more organized overview of -What kind of things to promote in certain areas -How much attention certain areas need -Where different aspects of promotion and attention are needed in different areas.

The Ecozones of British Columbia are…

Pacific Maritime This area is located on the very west side of British Columbia and goes into the Yukon Territory. Vancouver (south- west of the coast) is located in this ecozone, making it a very popular tourist area. It has mountains with areas of coastal plains. There are many varieties of mountain soils.

Montane Cordillera This area makes up most of British Columbia. It is on the south-east area of the province. It has mountains, plains, and plateaus. There is a wide variety of soils in this ecozone. Kamloops is located in this area.

Boreal Cordillera This area is at the very north- east of the province. It contains the city Whitehorse. It has mountain regions and a few hills with a range of mountain soils. It is also located in the Yukon Territory.

Boreal Plains This area is not very large in British Columbia. It is on the east side of the province and also features in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The landforms are gently rolling plains, and the soils are very rich and some are marsh soils. The city Hinton is located here.

Taiga Plains This area is located at the very north-east area of the province. The landform is mountainous and the soil is poor quality and there are many rocks. The ecozone also present in the Northwest Territories. The major city present in this ecozone is Old Crow.
