Graphene SIG – Motivation  We aim to ensure the UK participates in the commercialisation of graphene to the benefit of the UK economy  We do this by : - Providing a networking focus point for the graphene community - Identifying the challenges to be addressed - Highlighting opportunities for collaborative working - Informing direction of public funding

Graphene SIG – Structure The Graphene Community - Homed at Management & Delivery Team - Dedicated resource to manage, plan and deliver  Graphene Innovation Leadership Board - Advisory group to guide and check direction  Governance Board - Ensures successful delivery

UK Government investment in Graphene  National Graphene Institute (NGI) £38m in capital from the UK Government, £23m from the ERDF  Cambridge Graphene Centre, £12M investment by EPSRC and a variety of industrial partners and Chair of the Executive Board of the EU €1BN Graphene Flagship Project with 142 partners over 23 countries  Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), £20m (£15m from HEFCE UK Research Partnership Investment Fund and £5m from Innovate UK) and is co-funded by the Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar.  Graphene Applications Innovation Centre, £14M at CPI  Innovate UK/EPSRC £2.5mln feasibility study funding (2014)  EPSRC portfolio in graphene is approximately £32M over 55 projects  Additional funding within the UK from industry and European programmes

Commercialising Graphene  Moving Graphene from the lab to the marketplace will be achieved through collaborative effort  The UK is home to all the jigsaw pieces - Entrepreneurs with big ideas - Industry sectors with needs and wants - Enablers with unique offerings - Centres with capability and infrastructure - Academia with scientific knowledge  We need to put them together
