Timeline of WRRC Reclamation Database 2011 – Initiated WRRC Reclamation Database with BP data from Wamsutter, Jonah, Moxa Arch 2012 – Presentation at PAW Reclamation Conference 2013 – Approached by USFWS to see if we could add additional data – With help of PAW solicited data from majority of PAW operating members – Published Framework (Journal American Society of Mining and Reclamation) 2014 – Defended M.S. Thesis “Using Database Management to Improve Oil and Gas Pad Reclamation” – Begin PhD (Program in Ecology) – Summarized/Organized data for USFWS Data Call 2015 – Entered all wells which we had polygons created for to Conservation Efforts Database (30, acres of which 79.2% in or done with reclamation) – Begin Phase I of MOM Tool with WyGISC and WYNDD Upwards of 60,000 acres digitized with data (21 operating companies) 2016 – MOM Tool Phase 1 Completion (End March)
Policy for Evaluation Conservation Efforts when making a listing decision (PECE) A. The certainty that the conservation effort will be implemented – 9 Points B. The certainty that the conservation effort will be effective:
Regulatory Standards/Monitoring
Other Current Research -Monitoring timing -Forb windows -Monitoring improvement (limit inconsistencies) -Ecosystem Services and restoration (aside from simple vegetation monitoring) -Habitat Restoration (reminder WRRC Habitat Restoration Workshop – April 19-20, 2016 – Casper Event Center)
“It typically occurs in such surveys that more individuals are detected close to the line than far away from it, not because abundance is higher near the line but because the probability of detection is higher near the line than far from it…. In most situations, the probability of detection can be expected to be decrease as distance from the transect line increases.” – Thompson 2004
Conclusions We’re doing good We should continue to strive to do better It is important to be able to integrate databases/datasets Funding is a priority
