Alexandra Infant St Paul’s C of E Junior – proposed conversion into two-form primary schools 26 November 2014

The issues  Four classes in current Alexandra Year 1, but three classes at St Paul’s in Year 3 in 2016  No obvious location for additional Year 3 places elsewhere in North Kingston  Continuing forecasts of excess demand for Reception places in North Kingston

The proposed solution  Conversion of Alexandra and St Paul’s into all- through two-form entry primary schools from September 2016 onwards  Would create a fourth Year 3 class for September 2016 (and onwards)  Would create a fourth permanent Reception class - 60 Reception places per year at each school, i.e. 120 in total, compared with the current 90

How would the solution be enabled?  By expanding Alexandra on its current site; (or onto a second site: Barnfield Youth Centre, Parkfields Road, with Years 5 and 6 accommodated at Barnfield in new buildings) – feasibility re Alexandra's site due in early January  St Paul’s would be all-through on its current site  Consideration, and mitigation, of traffic and parking issues

Probable timescales  January 2015: feasibility studies due for building at and re-modelling of Alexandra’s and St Paul’s current sites  Spring/summer 2015: statutory consultation process; submission of planning applications  Summer 2015: remodelling of both sites

Probable timescales (cont’d)  15 January 2016: parents apply for Year 3 places  17 April: Year 3 application outcomes known  Summer 2016: building work at both sites

Year 3 admissions 2016 to 2018  There would be a three-year transition, in which each Year 2 cohort would have to be split between the two schools: in 2016, 60-60; in both 2017 and 2018, 60 at Alexandra and 30 at St Paul’s  Published admissions criteria would be applied as necessary

Proposed admissions criteria for Reception entry to ‘Alexandra Primary’ in Looked-after children and previously looked-after children 2.Siblings in attendance at Alexandra at the time of admission 3.Siblings in attendance at St Paul’s at the time of admission 4.Exceptional family, social or medical need 5.Distance from home to school

If there are still places remaining, these will be allocated using the above criteria but ignoring the one mile limit.
