Transferring Charges 1. Friction- is the transfer of electrons from one object to another by rubbing 2.Conduction- is the transfer of electrons from a charged object to another charged object by direct contact 3. Induction- is the movement of electrons to one part of an object caused by the electric field of another object (Lightning and the ground) See page 51 for examples!!!

Static Discharge Static Discharge- The loss of static electricity as electric charges move off an object. * How come during the summer months you don’t experience as much static shock?? On a humid summer day the air is filled with water molecules that absorbed the extra electrons *Why do you get shocked when you touch a door knob? Why do we have lightning??? A shock or lightning bolt is an example of electrons jumping to help make the object they were once on neutral. Spark = jumping electrons
