Some servicemembers may be eligible to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The Department of Defense determines eligibility. Children generally must be between 18 and 26 years of age. Benefits for spouses typically end 10 years from the date VA found the veteran eligible or from the date of death.
