Heading 1 : “The Qur’an” Qur’an collection Muhammad’s teachings; all 3 religions monotheistic; believe in: Day of Judgement, heaven (Paradise)/hell; laws caused changes in Arabian society; Jihad: internal struggle to be good; also “Holy War”. good Muslims follow many laws;

Heading 2: : “The Sunnah” a guide to daily life based on Muhammad‘s life; basis for the 5 Pillars of Islam; 1 st Pillar: statement of faith; 2 nd Pillar: pray 5x a day; 3 rd Pillar: yearly donation to charity; 5 th Pillar: “hajj”, pilgrimage to Mecca. 4 th Pillar: fasting during holy month of Ramadan;

Heading 3 : “Islamic Law” Qur’an + Sunnah = basis for Islamic law; Islamic law aka “Shariah”; lists rewards/punishments for obeying/disobeying laws; can be severe; no difference between religious/secular; most Islamic countries use regular court system for secular matters but Shariah very influential.
