Vaults Restaurant 340 years of history The building that houses Vaults Restaurant was erected in the 1670s, around the same time as the São Lourenço Church down the road (an absolute must see), making them the oldest buildings in the Almancil area.
Vaults Restaurant an architectural gem The typically Portuguese arched brick ceiling was created using a series of wooden forms, which outlined the arches, each of which is a different size and shape. Vaults was originally used as a coaching house and livery stable on the route from Seville to Lisbon. Horses which had pulled the coaches from Spain were exchanged at this way station.

He is a certified chef from the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Faro and has over 15 years kitchen experience in the Algarve. Chef Marco brings a fresh Algarvean attitude to his cooking, using high quality fresh ingredients combined with expert technique to bring out intense natural flavours in his regional Algarvean dishes, creating memorable meals. Chef Marco is co-founder of the Algarve Cuisine Academy, which offers cooking demonstrations and lessons to the public. He teaches young chefs at the local college and is in demand as a demonstrator with various local wholesalers. February 12, First Ace, Canada After two weeks in Portugal and dining in mostly good restaurants my wife and I read about Vaults Restaurant in Almancil and decided to venture further from home in Albufeira and try something different. From the moment we arrived we felt this was a different place….as we opened the door we were greeted by an impressive historical space. The decor accented the old world feeling …a high brick ceiling with gorgeous arches separating sections of the room….a friendly welcome at the door by the owner and invited to take any table we desired. The daily special’s board was delivered personally to our table and left for our perusal. We received prompt and excellent service and the food was also exceptional. The deserts were to die for…..absolutely delicious, alone worth the trip. The owner was genuinely concerned that you enjoyed your experience and provided much detail about the region ….. as well as suggesting other restaurants we may want to try during our stay. The chef also made it a point of assuring the food was to your liking by visiting each table. All in all, Vaults truly differentiated itself and the venue just enhanced the whole experience…definitely “ worth the drive”. As last minute "walk-ins" we were not a problem to chef at all, who freshly made us Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes, which he brought directly to our table. Totally impressed, what a treasure we have discovered! Fairly priced, with priceless service. Thank you!
