 College Credit Plus is a program that allows qualified students to receive college credit while still in high school.  This Program replaces Ohio’s PSEO program  Encompasses all dual credit programs into one program. ◦ High School and College Credit (dual credit) ◦ Free of charge to participating students and families. ◦ Many modalities: on campus, in the high school and online.

 CC+ students will have costs paid by the school district which includes: ◦ Tuition ◦ Books (student may be required to return at the end of the term) ◦ Fees  CC+ does not include: ◦ Optional fees like parking or transportation

 Students can earn college credits while still in high school.  Accelerate Achievement of educational goals  Opportunity to enroll in classes not available at high school.  Eliminate duplication of high school and college content  Increase the rigor and challenge of course offerings while in high school.

 Decrease the cost of college with tuition paid for by Xenia Community Schools  Easy transfer of college credits to most Ohio Institutions.  After graduation from high school, students can begin their first of college as a sophomore or junior.

 College coursework is more rigorous than high school ◦ Pace is much faster – students will cover the same content as a year-long AP course in a 15 week semester. ◦ College faculty expect more work to be done outside of the classroom.  High school calendar and college calendar very rarely match: ◦ Colleges still in session on teacher in-service days and Spring Breaks.

 Financial Risk ◦ CC+ legislation states the school district may require families to repay the cost of tuition and books for students who fail or withdraw from classes past the posted deadline. ◦ Future Federal Financial Aid may be impacted  Federal guidelines limit the amount of courses you may attempt (even if they are taken while in high school) to 150% of the number of credit hours needed for a degree.  Federal guidelines also state that you must successfully complete 67% of the courses you attempt.

 Participation in college classes may take time away from other activities. ◦ Students may need to limit involvement in sports and other extra-curricular activities or jobs.  Transportation is not provided.  Course credit may not transfer to private or out-of- state institutions.

 Students must be in 7 th through 12 th grade.  Students must file letter of intent with their high school counselor by March 30 th.  Students must meet the admission criteria set by each individual institution.

 Students who are highly motivated and mature.  Students who have interests beyond what is available at the high school.  Students who have the time to devote to college classes.

 Acceptance of credits is always determined by the receiving institution! Contact the Admission Office at the receiving institution to determine if your credits will transfer.  Transferology is a wonderful website to determine course equivalencies at other institutions typically within the state of Ohio: ◦ State of Ohio system guarantees transferability between public institutions. ◦ Transfer of credit is not guaranteed for Private and out-of- state institutions.

 Per HB 487, College Credit Plus courses must receive the equivalent weight as any weighted course within a given content area. Student grades will be converted to the Xenia Community Schools approved grading scale; however the college will impose their own grading scale as approved by the university. Example, 90% on the Xenia grading scale is an “A”, while it may be an ”A-“ at the university.  3 Semester hours = 1 Carnegie High School Credit

 If a student is taking all course work at the post-secondary institution, the minimum # of semester hours to maintain Athletic Eligibility is 13.  For eligibility purposes, 5 semester hours are calculated as 1 high school credit.

Example of Eligibility calculation: Subject School Credits/Duration Credit Equivalency Math XHS 1 1 x 1 = 1.0 Biology XHS 1 1 x 1 = 1.0 English CC+ 3.6 x 2 = 1.2 Psychology CC+ 4.8 x 2 = 1.6 History CC+ 5 1 x 2 = 2.0 Total Credits6.8 = eligible to participate (5 is the minimum to be eligible) The factor of 2 is used for CC+ courses.

 Step 1: Sign and return the CC+ Intent letter to the Guidance Office.  Step 2: Student will apply to the college/university he/she is interested in attending  Step 3: Student must demonstrate college readiness (ACT, SAT, Compass Test, or Accuplacer)  Step 4: Student will indicate on registration they are planning on taking CC+ courses (either at XHS, on Campus, or online)
