Action contre la Faim Ukraine Mission Nutrition Cluster Presentation April 2016

ACF in Ukraine ACF has opened a mission in Ukraine in the end of 2014 and has been operational since summer 2015 to meet the most urgent needs.

ACF in Ukraine In Ukraine ACF works under three directions: Food Security (vouchering program for IDPs and local most vulnerable persons; support of soup kitchens for affected population); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (water quality monitoring; providing of water tanks; distribution of hygiene vouchers to IDPs and most vulnerable locals; small water repairs, wells renovation); Mental Health and Care Practices (providing of training on Psychological First Aid; providing of individual and group counseling to IDPs and affected population, organizing IYCF corners in hospitals to provide counseling for pregnant and lactating women).

In the framework of MHCP activities ACF implements The Program to Support Mothers and Children under 2 years in order to protect the most vulnerable residents from the consequences of armed conflict and humanitarian crisis, namely reduction of breast- feeding time, deterioration of the emotional contact between mother and baby, mother's deteriorating psychological state.

IYCF Corners ACF has IYCF corners in Severodonetsk polyclinic on 16b, Fedorenko str. in the mother-and-baby room and in the maternity department in Belovodsk. In other places, namely Starobilsk, Popasnaya, Gorsky, Lisichansk, the activities are carried out by mobile team.

IYCF Corners ACF provides support and counseling on breastfeeding for pregnant and lactating women, and gives recommendations for strengthening the emotional connection with the child. In total for today, more than 140 women were consulted by the members of ACF MHCP team.

Baby kits for pregnant women ACF is in the process of distribution of 130 baby kits for the most vulnerable pregnant women in Lugansk region. Together with the kits ACF distributes breastfeeding materials provided by UNICEF.
