Types of questions There are three types of question in maths. AO1 – recall and use knowledge AO2 – select and apply maths in context AO3 – interpret and analyse problems AO1AO2AO3 Weighting45-55%25-35%15-25%
Functional Maths Functional maths questions involve the pupils applying their mathematical knowledge to real-life contexts and situations. A higher level of literacy is required for these questions, both in terms of reading and understanding the question, and in terms of communicating and justifying their answers.

Quality of Written Communication For some questions pupils will be marked on their quality of written communication (QWC). These questions have a star (*) by the question number. For these questions the pupils will achieve maximum marks for explaining each step of their calculations.

Scheme of Work and Assessment The course will be taught in short units (1-3 weeks long). Following each unit pupils will complete a APP short assessment. At the end of each half term pupils will undertake an assessment based on the units covered that half term. Pupils will be tracked on their progress. If a pupil underachieves on an APP they will re- sit this assessment If a pupil continues to underachieve they will be offered additional support
