National Prevention Centre Deployment

Police Model Prevention First Deployment Victim Focus Performance Management Productivity

What is Prevention First? Prevention First is the operating strategy for New Zealand Police It which puts prevention at the forefront and people at the centre. Prevention First will enable us to be better attuned to our communities and in control the criminal environment rather than always reacting to it. Prevention First will affect and require a commitment from each and every person who works for New Zealand Police.

Expected benefits New Zealand will be a safer place to live, visit and do business Less victimisation Opportunity to be proactive and make a difference Ability to innovate when it comes to finding solutions Reducing the costs of crime; in 2013 crime was estimated to cost New Zealand in excess of $11 billion per annum. Public Satisfaction as a result of improved services and proactive engagement with communities Improved relationships with our partner agencies

The 3 pillars of Prevention First Understanding and responding to the drivers of crime Fostering a change in mindset that puts prevention at the forefront of policing and victims at the centre Deploying to beat demand

The deployment model will allow us to mobilise staff and other resources faster and in a more informed manner. This will put us in a better place to respond to emerging crime hotspots before it’s too late and follow-up prolific offenders with urgency before they offend again
