Presentation transcript:

Week of: March 7 th – March 11 th News to Know INTERNATIONAL TASTE OF HOLMES: Tomorrow, March 12 th, is another fantastic PTO event. The International Taste of Holmes is a great community builder in which different cultures are celebrated through food, customs and clothing. I encourage everyone to attend this great event. You can find more information about the ITOH on the Digital Backpack of on my website. WEATHER RESEARCH: This week we continued our weather research projects both in the classroom and in the library with Ms. Maneck. Ask your child what they found and what they read. You can find pictures of the class researching on our website. SPRING BREAK: With Spring Break right around the corner, I understand that some families will be leaving early or coming back late from the time off of school. Please inform me and the office of any upcoming absences that you are aware of. CHANGING WEATHER: Please keep a close eye on the forecast in the upcoming weeks as the seasons change and as the temperature changes. Make sure that your child comes to school in appropriate clothing for the day…THANKS! Rowdy Readers STANDARDS: This week we continued two different studies. First, we continued our weather research study and took a deeper look into each season. Second, we had a ton of fun with our Dr. Seuss author study. Some areas of concentration were: comparing and contrasting, identifying the reason for writing a book, retelling information and continued work on singular and plural nouns. BOOKS: Here is a list of a few books that we read this week. Feel free to ask your child about them: How do you know it’s Winter? How do you know it’s Spring? How do you know it’s Summer? One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish There’s a Wocket in my Pocket Green Eggs and Ham SIGHT WORDS: This week we added one new sight word “want”. We did a number of activities to ensure that the class knew this new word. Our current sight word list is up to 25 words. If you would like the full list, please let me know. Next week we will add two more words! Math Madness SUBTRACTION: Our main focus throughout the week was subtraction by drawing pictures and by counting backwards. We made up stories about kindergarteners losing teeth and we read a Pete the Cat book in which buttons were lost. This should not be a fluent skill yet but your child should understand what subtraction means, how to write a subtraction problem and solve it.
