Nouns

Nouns - Practice 1 Find and list all the nouns in the following paragraph. When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home. I was wishing I looked like Paul Newman – he looks tough and I don’t – but I guess my own looks aren’t so bad. I have light-brown, almost-red hair and greenish-gray eyes. I wish they were more gray, because I hate most guys that have green eyes, but I have to be content with what I have. My hair is longer than a lot of boys wear theirs, squared off in the back and long at the front and sides, but I am a greaser and most of my neighborhood rarely bothers to get a haircut. Besides, I look better with long hair.

They explained why they came to this country. Hatred and discrimination forced them to flee Germany. They became citizens of our country and had six children to make a family. Grandmother never talked about her experiences in Germany. Grandfather became a mechanic. Grandmother stayed at home with the children. One day while she was watching the children in the front yard, a swarm of bees attacked. A bystander helped her rescue the kids. She was stung on her face, hands, and feet. Ever since she has been scared of bees. She told me that story on Monday.

Nouns – Practice 4 List the nouns in the following paragraph IN ORDER on your paper. If the same word appears more than one, write it each time. Bob was not a good swimmer. One hot day in August, at a picnic on the river bank, he swam out too far into the swiftly moving water. When Bob let his feet down, he could not touch bottom! He became panicky. His friends were shouting excitedly. On the shore the picnickers, who did not know that Bob was in trouble, laughed as they ran up and down. Bob shouted, “Help!” He shouted again. His friends paid no attention because they did not hear him. Bob was really tired now. He decided he must save his strength. He caught his breath and paddled slowly for a few minutes. Then he pulled toward the shore with all his might across the current. Finally, he put his feet down again. At last he could feel the bottom! Bob had helped himself.
