Background Deer - #1 cause of animal-related vehicle collisions Kansas ,417 vehicle collisions involved deer (13.3%) –254 injury –5 death 8 th in US 1 in 211 chance to be involved in deer- vehicle collision (DVC)

Purpose To evaluate injury patterns from motor vehicle-deer collisions that result in trauma activation

Methods Retrospective chart review Trauma Database at Via Christi Regional Medical Center – St. Francis Campus Level 1 trauma center Statistical analysis –Quantitative – Anova –Qualitative – Pearson Chi-Square, Fischer’s exact test

Inclusion/Exclusion January 1, 2003 to November 30, 2008 Included: –All patients involved in DVC that resulted in trauma activation or consult Excluded: –Patients treated and released from Emergency Department without trauma activation –Patients refusing transport to the hospital by EMS
