Mining Aim: To know the importance of mining to South Africa and what effects this has on the country Success criteria: To be able to recognise both positive and negative effects of mining in regard to the environment, society and economy.

Video Watch episode 3 of South Africa 2000 Make notes on: – What effects gold has had on Johannesburg – What the problems are since the gold mines have closed down – What effects has Apartheid had on black people? – What has happened to Adam?

Task Extension- write a series of paragraphs about the impacts of mining on South Africa (think about the economy, the environment and the people)- remember this can be positive and negative- try to get a balance!
