A CASE OF BRONCHIAL ASTHMA By Dr. Jawahar Shah M.D.(Hom)

NOTE: To protect the patient’s identity, we have used a model’s picture or photographs for the purpose of presentation.

Mr. B.D.N., aged 67, a well known social worker with a strong inclination to help people.

Was brought in 1978 by a number of his followers. He had been suffering from Bronchial Asthma for the last 40 years.

He was on approximately 13 tablets in a day and was 100% dependent on the aerosol pump. He would use his bronchodilator pump every 1 hour or more frequently.

A complete history was taken. The case was repertorized, re-repertorized an re-worked. Interview / history was taken again. The medicine was changed but without relief.

He had been to most of the well known Homoeopaths of India without getting much relief. Even I was pocketed by him. His followers would always come and request me to do something urgently

I was frustrated as I could not help him at all and no amount of reworking of the case helped. But there were a few points which were observed. 1. Inspite of so much of suffering & drug dependency, the spasms were very prominent and there were hardly any secretions, even in the worst of crisis.

2. The patient was capable of managing most of the day to day activities. He never had any problem in managing anything. He was very active in his social activities. In fact he went out of his way to help people.

This helping nature is predominantly a psoric trait and although the disease pathologically was advance, at the mental level patient showed lots of healthy and psoric expressions. That is why inspite of his age and duration of disease, physician can be sure that if right medicine is selected patient can be helped.

One fine morning he came with his wife and wife told me very interesting fact. She said that he was totally dependent on Steroids, Bronchodilators and inhaler. He would take the inhaler half hourly or 1 hourly and he would get relief.

And many a time the inhaler doesn’t have any medicine in it. It may be empty but still he feels better. Based on this expression I considered the following facts:

Leading Personality Requires Support Sycotic to Syphilitic expression Anxiety about health Chilly patient.

He must have received many homoeopathic medicines from various physicians in various potencies. So I must do something different do get some result. Fact expressed that there is undercurrent psychology and anxiety running in this case. So I must give remedy which is sycotic, chilly & has marked anxiety.

I thought that in spite of all the changes, the disease is still predominantly in the sycotic phase and nothing seemed to be working on him. (Considering he had been treated by many Homoeopathic, Ayurvedic and Allopathic doctors).

So I thought of starting with Thuja (30), 1 dose daily.

It was gradually increased to 2 doses a day, then to 3 doses a day and then 4 doses. There was marked change during the eight weeks of treatment. All his 13 tablets (Allopathic) were stopped.

The frequency of using the pump decreased. His appetite improved and he started feeling much healthier.

Some of the rubrics of asthma under Thuja

After using technically advanced tools from Hompath software we got keynotes of Thuja Occidentalis remedy.

He felt so much better, that it was like a new life for him. When the medicine stopped acting, we increased the potency from 30 to 200 and then to 1 M and finally to 10 M and only Thuja was given. The patient is still in perfect health and is a chairman/president of number of trusts and is continuing his social activities. Result:

Learning: Complete understanding of miasm and knowledge of when and how to prescribe the antimiasmatic remedy. Knowledge of posology I give Thuja to the chilly patients or Medorrhinum to hot patients in repeated doses, when indicated remedy does not work you straight away give Medorrhinum or Thuja depending on indication.
