Conclusion  We have developed MNPs-based biosensor to achieve nano-scale colorimetric or electrochemical biosensing.  We successfully demonstrated that rotaviruses and breast cancer cells could be reliably identified and further quantified through MNPs- promoted colorimetric reaction.  A new synergistically integrated nanocomposite consisting of MNPs and Pt NPs, simultaneously entrapped in mesoporous carbon, is developed as a promising enzyme mimetic candidate to achieve ultrafast colorimetric immunoassays.  This study should accelerate and widen the utility of MNPs as next- generation alternatives to peroxidases.
