Unit 4 Learning Aims After completing this unit you should: 1.Understand the effect of developments in information technology on organisations 2.Understand how organisations respond to information technology developments 3.Be able to propose improvements to business systems using IT

2.1 Responses (1) Different ways that firms have changed include: Adapting Business Processes – this has included the widespread use of loyalty cards and payback systems to encourage customers to increase their purchases with a business. Sales and Marketing Strategies for Global Opportunities – businesses are able to conducts their sales and marketing direct to customers without having to physically travel to them cutting down costs.

2.1 Responses (2) Purchasing Strategies for Automated Ordering – developments have made it easier to make and create product orders quickly and easily. Customer Support for Online Systems – developments have created such support as FAQs, ‘contact us’ and logging queries quick/simple. Financial Systems for Secure Funds Transfers - developments connected to Online Banking and Payment Systems have become “Safer”.
