Hilton Worldwide Global Sustainability Initiative we care! programme

Over 3,200 hotels - Operating in 80+ countries

Hilton Worldwide global initiative On 5 th June 2008 Chris Nassetta, CEO of Hilton Worldwide announced Hilton’s global sustainability initiative for the next 5 years : The following global reduction targets have been set: Energy - 20% CO 2 emissions - 20% Waste - 20% Water - 10%

 Hilton has been involved in environmental initiatives for many years.  This was always seen as the chief engineer’s responsibility – very little involvement by other hotel departments.  In 2005 the need was felt to change things.  Utility costs were spiralling up and there was a growing awareness about the need to take positive action to help overcome global warming.  All team members needed to be engaged.  A need was felt for a programme that - Helped educate/train team members - Engaged and empowered them to create change - Introduced an element of fun and competition Hilton Europe’s environmental campaign

Awareness raising – we care! programme in Europe Goals  Goals established : reference year 2005 EnergyWaste Chemicals Water 20% energy reduction w.r.t levels 10% water reduction w.r.t levels

Awareness raising – we care! programme in Europe Tools  Environmental Policy  The ITP guidelines: Sustainable Siting, Design & Construction  Training and ecoLearning  GreenBox 2006  GreenBox 2008  3 ecoLearning courses in 8 language versions  HEAT : Hilton Environmental Analysis & Tracking  Internal communication via intranet, we care! board  Sustainable Sourcing  Green teams/Green Champions

A green box with all training materials sent to each hotel in December 2005 including instructions on how to launch the programme. A 2nd version of the box issued in January Forums and workshops held for all team members. Green teams set up and action plans presented. Awareness raising – we care! board

 THE CHALLENGE - To reduce energy & water consumption  THE REWARD - A prize awarded to each team member in the best performing hotel in each operational region.  Criteria:  regular and timely performance reporting  full implementation of the we care! BOH  significant resource use reductions (meet the targets) Awareness raising – we care! programme in Europe - Tools Competition

Awareness raising – we care! programme in Europe The Result 30,000 team members trained in we care! workshops across Europe. Almost 8,000 team members in 54 countries passed ecoLearning in eight language versions, and got their diploma. 82% said they would change their environmental behaviour right away!!! * * based on 458 answers = 10% rate
