Shepherdsville Elementary Open House Welcome, Parents and Students!

Shepherdsville Elementary Expectations Beginning/Ending of the day Procedures:  School begins at 9:10 a.m. (breakfast is provided for all children at our school – free of cost)  Friday mornings are our school wide morning meetings. Children will report to the gym after breakfast. School still begins at 9:10  The school day ends at 3:50

Shepherdsville Elementary Transportation Policy  It is best to have your child go home the same way every day.  If your schedule changes and you have to have a different form of transportation you must send a written note informing the office of this change.  Place all transportation notes in your child’s planner

SES Dress Code  Your child MUST be in dress code everyday - Dress code consist of solid polo shirts, solid slacks (tan, black and navy)and tennis shoes (no boots or sandals)  3 violations equals a discipline note (I really hate writing discipline notes)  THIS IS A SCHOOL POLICY!!

SES Classroom Planners  You will need to check your child’s planner each night and initial it.  Each day your child starts off with a green stamp. A second stamp will be placed in the planner if behavior indicates a change.  If your child receives a yellow or red in their planner please talk to them about their behavioral choices  Please write any notes to me or Mrs. Hilbert in your child’s planner… they are checked daily.

SES Behavioral Expectations Our school is using the following color system to help your child make good choices in class. Gold: only given to children displaying perfect behavior…must be earned through actions Purple : given to children displaying excellent behavior. Green: given at the beginning of the day. Good and appropriate behavior. Following Stingray Ways. Blue: required a warning to make good behavior choices usually due to talking Yellow: needed numerous reminders and visual cuing to make appropriate behavioral choices. Red: Inappropriate behavior, disrespectful choices (may receive discipline note)

Homework Expectations  Your child will receive their homework on Monday, and it will be due back on Friday. This is a requirement for my class!  Homework should take no longer than 15 minutes (reading, writing, math and discussion).  It is very important that they complete and return their homework each week.  Homework reinforces what is taught in the classroom, and will greatly benefit your child’s learning.  3 weeks of missing homework will result in a schedule conference.

SES Tuesday Folders  Tuesday folders will be sent home every Tuesday (white envelope)  They MUST be emptied each Tuesday, signed and return to school with your child the next day  Daily work, important news from the office and flyers will be sent home in the Tuesday folder.

Classroom Donations Throughout the year we always run out of the following items: Expo markers, Glue Sticks, Clorox Wipes, Zip Lock Baggies, Baby Wipes, Labels, Play-Doh and Shaving Cream If you are willing to donate any of these items please let me know.

Scholastic Book Orders  You will be getting book orders sent home through- out the school year  Books purchased help earn bonus points which allows us to purchase classroom books  If you decide to order books from scholastic, your payments options are:  Checks (payable to Scholastic)  Exact Cash in labeled baggy or envelope  Credit Card via internet (this helps us earn one extra book per order)

SES Library Books and Class Library Books  We will be sending books home with your child throughout the school year. Some will be from our school library while others from our class library.  Please make sure that these books are not damaged, and handled with care and love.  If your child borrows a book from one of our libraries and damages it the parents are asked to replace the book at their cost.

Kentucky Schools Require Background Checks  If you plan on volunteering for anything at the school (field trips, field day, parties, helping out in the room) we encourage you to get your background check A.S.A.P  You must get a new background check each year.  All you need to bring into school is your license, a small fee and they will give you  a paper to fill out.

Classroom Volunteers  We love having volunteers help out in the classroom.  We are especially in need of volunteers on the following days:  Tuesday  Friday If you are unable to come into class but still want to help please let us know…we always have things that need to be cut out

Snack Cart  There will be snack cart on Friday’s  All items cost.50 cents  Please do not send in more than $2.00 with your child  Children on a yellow or red light will be unable to participate in snack cart.

P.T.O  It only cost $2 to join the P.T.O.  They do so much for our school and the students.  All money goes towards things for the school or your child’s education  Please join the P.T.O

Field Trips  We realize our school is a Title I school; however, each child and chaperone MUST pay for the cost of the field trip (we can make a payment plan)  If we do not have enough funds the trip will be cancelled  Fee waivers do not apply towards our school’s field trips  If for some reason your child misses the field trip money will be applied towards the next field trip scheduled for that year (last field trips are nonrefundable) NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN!!!

Classroom Field Trip T-Shirts  We use class t-shirts for our field trips and field day  Approximate cost of the Field Trip shirt will be $6.50 for children and $10 for adults. We will place our order mid-September.  We will keep their shirts art school until the end of the year, and they will bring them home on field day to keep.

Let’s Have a Great Year!
