Service Academy Nomination Members of Congress are authorized by law to nominate candidates for appointment to four U.S. service academies. These schools are the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

Congressional Nomination Each Member of Congress is authoized five (5) Cadet Appointments at West Point at any one time. Each Member may nominate up to ten(10) young people to fill each vacancy. The Vice President has five (5) Cadet Appointments for applicants from the United States at large.

The 5 pieces of the Admissions Process Appointment Qualify Academically Qualify Medically Qualify Physically Obtain Nomination

Earn a Cadet Appointment Files must be complete by 28 February. No rolling admissions Early completion means Letter of Encouragement. Must qualified Academically, Medically and Physically. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May. Each nomination allows you to compete with the pool of Candidates that have earned the same nomination as you The more places you compete, the better You also compete on a National Level (National Waiting List)

Visit West Point Schedule a weekday visit at least two weeks in advance. Bring a parent or family member. -During the academic year, you’ll spend time with a cadet escort. -During the summer break, you’ll meet one-on-one with an Admissions officer. You can schedule an overnight visit if you have been accepted or if you’ve received a Letter of Encouragement (LOE).

A few final words…. Apply to all available nomination sources early Complete Candidate Kit Early Take both the ACT and SAT ( with the writing test) – take them more than once to improve your scores Practice for the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) Prepare file carefully with emphasis on the Personal Statement Get Fully Qualified as early as you can!! (3Q=phsycially+medically+academically) Consider ROTC in addition to West Point Make the admissions Decision that is right for you (not your parents or friends or teachers!)
