Background Based on achievement of a set of requirements Will be first issued in year 10 students will need to plan for it

To get the New TCE students will need to show they can do everyday adult reading, writing and communication (literacy standard);literacy st can use everyday adult maths (numeracy standard);numeracy s can make everyday adult use of computers and the internet (ICT standard);ICT s have completed a full program as part of your senior secondary education and training (participation and achievement standard); andparticipation and achievement s have developed and reviewed plans for your future (pathway planning standard)pathway plannings

Meeting the requirements  TQA has released tables that show what courses will count toward meeting the new TCE standards  These will be progressively updated as more courses are validated  Externally-assessed TQA accredited courses now listed – see Literacy, Numeracy and ICT Standards paper  TCE English, Maths and ICT 2 – 4 B and C and selected VET Certificate I and II courses listed  Others will be progressively reviewed for change so that standards can be met  Tests for literacy, numeracy and ICT developed for use in

Meeting the ICT Requirements TCE 5C subjects in ICT – Eg Computer Science, Information Technology Other TCE 5C subjects with ICT – Eg Ancient Civilizations, Art Appreciation, English Communications TCE 3-4 B and C in ICT subjects – Eg Computer Graphics and Design, Media Production, VET qualifications with ICT - Cert II in Business, Cert II in IT ICT test (stand-alone)

Meeting the Participation and Achievement Requirements Equivalent of two year “full-time” program of studies* Broad range of TCE, TQA accredited, recognised and VET courses 120 units of credit ** 80 units of credit must be at complexity level 2 *** Table of Complexity Level and Credit points at 28/RND01/Participation_May_2007.pdf 28/RND01/Participation_May_2007.pdf *However there is no time limit – requirements can be met over any number of years **Eg TCE 5C course counts for 15 units of credit ***Eg Certificate II in Retailing counts at complexity level 2

Meeting the Pathway Planning Requirements Pathway Planning Students will show that they have developed and reviewed plans for the future 2007 year 10 students will lodge a Statement of Intent as part of the formal requirements for Guaranteeing Futures Statement of Intent will be via a scannable document returned to the TQA Particular courses or programs may be recognised that show student’s use of pathway planning

Ways of getting the new TCE? By doing a full-time program at school or college By doing a mix of TCE and VET full-time as in a school-based traineeship or apprenticeship By doing a full-time VET program – Eg an apprenticeship By combining part-time work and study or training* * There are no time restrictions for completion. Students can take more than two years

A Record of Qualifications All students will get a Qualifications Certificate This will show all senior secondary education and training qualifications. These qualifications can count toward a future new TCE qualification Students who get the new TCE will also get the Qualifications Certificate Those who don’t meet the new TCE requirements will still get the Qualifications Certificate

Tasmanian Certificate of Educational Achievement Will describe unique aspects of participation and achievement in narrative terms For students where particular circumstances impact on performance in senior secondary education and training Guidelines released showing who is eligible and procedures Students may get both the TCEA and the new TCE

What the new TCE will look like A statement showing a student has met all the requirements to be awarded the new TCE A Qualifications Certificate which lists all achievement in: TCE TQA accredited TQA recognised VET

University Entrance The change to the TCE will not alter university entrance and the Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER). Year 12 students gain their TER from achievement in TCE 5C subjects using rules approved by the university. This will continue. The university may consider an equivalent TER which recognises VET and other courses (up to TER of 65)

What value will the new TCE have? Sets minimum standards for achievement Employers recognise meeting or doing better than the standards will assist employment, further education and training Complements Guaranteeing Futures by providing a valued qualification for post-year 10 education and training

For 2008 Year 11 students Should enrol in a full two year program Should check that they can meet literacy, numeracy and ICT requirements Should ensure that they can meet the 120 units of credit over two years with 80 at complexity level 2 or above
