How does chinese food in America differ from chinese food in China? By: Hannah Lane and Molly Grady Vs.

1.Ingredients In America chinese people have to use the ingredients found in americanized chinese supermarkets. But in China, the chinese markets have more of the ingredients native to China. Like, leafy watercress, octopus and spices.

The chicken in China is not fatty and meaty like American chickens. In China the chicken is free-range.

Beef is not very common in China because its expensive. Cattle is hard to raise there, due to lack of land, corn and water. Beef was so expensive in China in the 1980’s they nick-named it “millionaires meat”.

People in China who live by the sea, eat a lot more seafood than people in other parts of China. People who live in the middle to northern part of China enjoy spices because its cold where they live and the spices warm them up. Pork and vegetables are popular everywhere in china.

Potatoes are American’s main carbohydrates Noodles and rice are chinese peoples’ main carbohydrates.

2. Markets/Grocery Stores In China, the markets are mainly outdoors and sell live animals such as pigs, and chicken. There are big tanks with live fish, clams, and crocodiles in China. In America most of the grocery stores and markets are indoors and don’t sell many live animals.

Other vendors serve veggies, beef, pork, fish, etc. in different ways. Such as on sticks or fried.

Chinese medicine stores sell roots and spices that can improve your health. Roots and spices help the immune system and etc.

There are no health inspectors in China. Therefore, the food and restaurants wont be nearly as clean as ones in America.

3. Chinese tongue vs. American tongue Americans don’t have the same tongue as chinese people who eat chinese food on a regular basis.

Portions in America are the same as in China. Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert When Chinese people go out to eat they are usually in big groups so the portions are bigger for those occasions. Same with America. But unlike China, American’s also go out to eat in small groups too; 2-3 people.

Drinks in China are water, tea, and coffee. Rarely is soda on the menu. Coffee is very dark and strong because they don’t have coffee makers in China. To make coffee in China you mix coffee grounds in water.

China has American-Chinese food and fast food, just like America. Panda Express KFC – rice, not fries. McDonalds – put a spin on the burgers, making them spicy. McDonalds in China is a special treat because its expensive.

There is healthier eating in China. Most of the everyday food in China is like Farmers Markets in America. China has fried food but not near as much as America does.

Did you know….? Fortune cookies are not consumed in China or anywhere in Asia. They were invented in San Francisco! THE END
