Online Public Interface and Outreach ASTEP Website and Remote Science Collaboration Server 7/30/03

Goals for Public Outreach (external from ES) Provide a public interface that is scalable by multiple data types for science return. Express multiple data types from the field team and the remote scientists within a friendly online UI. An web interface which can be used by both the public and the mission participants. Design a system which can assimilate and archive data quickly with minimal human interaction.

Online Public Interface | 1st Generation Created for the average public audience. Single developer limitation. Hard to navigate directly to science data. No remote science interface.

Online Public Interface | 2nd Generation Created for both public and scientific audiences. Multiple developers. Easy to update. Scalable. Cons Flash 5.0+ dependent. Non-traditional navigation system. Frames dependent.

Future Considerations Dynamic updating from the field (little or no human integration) Solid communication loop between the ground truth team and the remote scientists using a low bandwidth web/ solution. e.g. Winlink. (global system used by the Americas Cup) Improve how multiple web developers can create a unified interface for science return.
