Megalosaurus, Iguandon, and Hylaesaurous Sir Richard Owen, 1842, England. Richard Owen was superintendent of the history department at the British museum and responsible for transfering specimens to the new Natural History museum. Hylaesaurous lived 136 million years ago in the Cretaceous period. Iguanodons were herbivores that are related to iguanas. Iguanodon means "iguana tooth" in Greek. Megalosaurus were carnivores that lived in the Jurassic period.
First Dinosaur Described Scientifically William Buckland William Buckland described Megalosaurus, one of the first dinosaurs to be discovered. He discovered the Megalosaurus fossil in a prehistoric Cave Hyena den.
First American Dinosaur Discovered William Parker Foulke, 1858, New Jersey. He "discovered" the bones while on vacation in Haddonfield, New Jersey. He named it Hadrosaurus Foulkii and it was the first bipedal dinosaur to be "discovered". His find was the first full dinosaur skeleton to be discovered in North America
