Italian Institute for International Political Studies

Overview ISPI Italian Institute for International Political Studies Established in 1934, ISPI is the oldest and most comprehensive Italian think-tank. ISPI was created by some of Milan’s leading entrepreneurs. It was intended to be a research and debate hub as well as a conduit between Italy’s entrepreneurial class and world events. Mission and purpose: ISPI’s vocation is to provide policy-oriented studies and guidance on international scenarios, to investigate Italy’s role in the international arena, to train young men and women aspiring to work in an international environment, and to provide a forum for high-level discussion and debate. No political affiliation: for 80 years ISPI has remained true to its mission as a centre for independent thought, unaffected by pressures from either the government or business interests.

Strategy ISPI aims to be: an impartial scientific benchmark in Italy and Europe, and a prime source of reference for thousands of young people who wish to understand the complex dynamics of international affairs; a recognized authority at the European, national, and local level, for businesses and institutions that intend to broaden their reach abroad and turn to the Institute for advice, or to promote studies, debates and training. To achieve this: ISPI’s work is marked by an interdisciplinary approach, ensured by its close collaboration with academics and experts in economic, political, historical, and strategic studies; scientific contributions are provided not only by resident and associate researchers but also by other partner universities and think tanks; ISPI’s approach is pragmatic: many initiatives are conducted at the specific request of public or private bodies, including the EU Commission and Parliament, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Parliament, local authorities, and large private companies.
