SWBAT describe the physical and political geography of Europe by creating and analyzing maps. 1)Choose two countries on the map that are landlocked. 2)What country is southwest of Zambia. 3)Which direction should I travel if I’m in Angola and want to go Zimbabwe?

Welcome to Europe! What geographic features do you notice? Jot down any physical or human features you notice in the video!

Divide your notes in half.. Physical GeographyHuman/Political Geography

Europe is the 6 th largest continent. It is located in the northern, eastern and western hemispheres.

Europe had approximately 50 countries in it, including the largest and smallest countries in the world.

Europe has a population of over 733 million people who speak 225 different languages. (23 official languages.)

Twenty-eight countries belong to the European Union, a politico-economic association.

Europe is many peninsulas. A peninsula is a landform that has water on three sides. Not to be confused with an island, which is surrounded by water.

Europe is the only continent without a desert.

Let’s makes some maps! With your table groups, label the physical features of Europe only. You will label the political areas for homework. You have 15 minutes.

Independent Practice Write a 200 word essay about how the physical geography would effect human geography. Hint: You will have to use vocabulary from unit 1.
