Quentin Tarantino We decided to chose Tarantino because: We liked his variety and use of camera angles and shots. The dramatic storylines and themes. The interesting characters and props.

Films We watched many different Tarantino films. The more films we watch the more knowledge we have on his style. We also thought we would have more to discuss if we watch different films to each other. -Kill Bill. Volume One and Two -From Dusk till Dawn -Sin City -Pulp Fiction -Reservoir Dogs

Film Ideas We wanted the two edited sequences to show the different aspects of our ideas. The first section is choreographed and looks at the different camera shots that can be done. The second is looking at how Tarantino uses shapes and colours in his work.

Theme In the films that we have watched there are recurrent themes which are based on gun crime, sexual and emotional abuse and violence. We decided to look at the revenge side of violence. We could create a choreographed dance using lifts, leans and contact work.

Distance shots but still with action and talking. Close ups and distance shots in the same camera take. Close ups of specific body parts, specifically faces, while other people are talking. Shots from one room looking through to another through the door frame. Camera Shots

Continued… Trunk Shots. Filming feet at integral moments. “Framing that frustrates the audience’s view of the ‘whole’, by showing only a small fragment of, for example, the body in motion, forces the viewers imagination to come into play.” (McPherson, 2006, p. 25) Includes Toilet scene. Characters framed by door and window frames. Flashes of another scene that you cannot quite make out what it is.

Common Traits “Mexican Stand Off” Tarantino also tends to use flashbacks or shows the end of the film at the beginning. Uses food and drink when a major event is about to occur. (Uses own brands.) Main characters smoking is a recurring element.

Characterisation and props Likes to use mixed race characters due to his background. Characters introducing themselves using rhyme. Characters “typically” wear black suit with a white shirt and black tie. Suitcases and briefcases play an important role in his films.

Evaluation of editing clips Putting both edited sequences together would highlight all Tarantino’s ideas more clearly. However would this make the sequence look too much?
