For Information only Breakdown of responses by Region

For Information only What You Told Us  Strong support for:  Isolation and Transition as starting point  Funding to those most in need  Extending the undertaking to the VCS  BIG being flexible and not afraid to take risks  Providing support as well as grants

For Information only Do you agree that the theme of isolation provides a useful starting point for our funding?

For Information only Do you agree that we should have a greater focus in our funding to benefit those most in need?

For Information only After 2012, when our 60-70% undertaking ends, should we continue to guarantee a percentage of our funding goes to the VCS?

For Information only Do you think BIG should take more risks with its funding to promote innovative solutions?

For Information only Over and above giving out grants, what would make BIG a better funder in the way we work?

For Information only The BIG Framework Our Strategic Framework for is  The funding principles we will adopt during this period  A reference point for explaining what we want to achieve  The context within which our specific country and UK programmes will sit

For Information only Framework Headlines  From distributor to intelligent funder  Targeting need and making a difference  Achieving spread  Being inclusive and engaged  A more responsive funder  Operational excellence  Using our learning

For Information only Continuity  Mission & Vision remains the same  No new directions from Government (except revisions in Scotland)  Intelligent Funding  Remain committed to the VCS  Focused on outcomes  Building on past learning and success  Some familiar programmes continue in 09/10

For Information only What’s new?  A package of measures relating to recession announced alongside the Framework  An enhanced UK-wide target that at least 80 per cent of funding goes directly to the Voluntary and Community Sector between  Isolation and Transition as starting points  Programmes developed within each country and announced in due course

For Information only VCS commitment  A UK-wide target of at least 80% going to the VCS (previously 60%-70%)  Recognises major role for VCS in delivering outcomes  Retains the flexibility to provide funding to other types of organisation to deliver outcomes  Also retains ability to fund individuals (e.g. veterans’ programmes)

For Information only Recession package  A package of measures relating to recession announced alongside the Framework  £39.2m in increased budgets for some existing programmes (e.g. additional £20m in Reaching Communities)  A further £43m which will be focussed on longer-term effects of the recession (programme details tbc)

For Information only Research and Learning  Programme evaluation and monitoring  Intelligent Funders’ Forum  Maximising the Impact of Grant Making  Mapping Unmet Britain’s Needs

For Information only Efficiency and demand  A cost efficient distributor recognised by the Public Accounts Committee for high quality outreach and development  Our operating costs have come down significantly – we will only spend on ourselves where that will enhance outcomes

For Information only From distributor to intelligent funder  Through IF we can: Address need Fund close to beneficiary Be responsive Retain flexibility Be in a position to influence policy and practice
