EM-WBA S FROM 2015 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Early Phase (the first 12 months of ED in Advanced Training time) Rate No. 1 every 3 months4 None required 1 every 3 months4 4 Late Phase (the next 18 months of ED in Advanced Training time) Rate No. 1 every 6 months3 3 1 every 3 months6 6 Instrument Mini CEX Shift Report DOPS CbD AT Total T OTALS

WBA REVIEW PROCESS Single, streamlined process by the Regional WBA Review Panels: In-Training Assessments (ITAs): ED and non-ED Emergency Medicine WBAs (EM-WBAs): ED only Feedback on results: Immediate feedback to trainee on each assessment. Collated ratings and feedback available to view by trainee, WBA Local Coordinator and DEMT. For trainee self-directed learning. For local education planning (and remediation) Feedback on progress by panel every 6 months Formal progression decisions by a panel: Removed from the local context Deferred until completion of sufficient assessments to make reliable judgment: Completion of early phase (12 months ED time) Completion of late phase (subsequent 18 months ED time) Completion of 6 months critical care Completion of 6 months non-ED Completion of 6 months discretionary Completion of remediation time Time complete at election to Fellowship. Recommend local and/or regional remediation and reassessment processes.

R EVISED ITA P ROCESS : W HAT STAYS THE SAME ? DEMT/Supervisor retain responsibility for current assessment and feedback processes during a trainee’s time at the DEMT/Supervisor’s training site: sign-off on training time completed during training at the DEMT’s/Supervisor’s site (incl. calculation of leave taken); completion of In-Training Assessment/s (ITAs) to assess the trainee against the learning outcomes expected by the College; completion of a form of Learning Needs Analysis (LNA) to assess the trainee against individualised learning goals for the training time spent at the DEMT’s/Supervisor’s training site.

T IME E NTRY AND S IGN - OFF P ROCESS (T RAINEE E NTERS, DEMT C ONFIRMS ) Trainee enters term details: Current: Within four-weeks of the start-date of the term. Revised: Anytime before or on the start-date of the term Trainee enters employment fraction: Current: As part of the ITA process. Revised: Upon entry of term, then adjusts in real-time. Trainee enters leave details: Current: As part of the ITA process. Revised: Enters as leave is taken. DEMT signs-off on time (incl. leave taken) Current: As part of the ITA process. Revised: Upon electronic request 8 times per year Remember that this will be a QUICK review and sign-off process. The data to be signed off will be from the last 6-7 weeks only. Allows for more regular training time calculations, required for timely initiation of new WBA review processes.

R EVISED ITA P ROCESS Shorter process. More focussed on on learning outcomes that are best assessed by DEMT/Supervisor. Revision to remove trainee self-assessment. Revision to emphasise the ITA as a ‘point-in-time- assessment’. Revision to remove pass/fail type wording. Revision of timeline to a set of standard ITA dates across each country. Ensures equity in assessment load between trainees (i.e. all trainees receive 4 x ITAs in each 12/12). Increases predictability of assessment timing / workload for DEMT/Supervisor, College Committees/Panels and Staff.

ITA P ROCESS (DEMT L EAD P ROCESS ) 1.DEMT completes ITA ITA is open for entry throughout the applicable term. 2.DEMT provides feedback to trainee in chosen mode Brief meeting (face-to-face / online / phone) In writing ( / via ITA form itself) 3.DEMT submits ITA ITA is open for submission for three weeks. 4.ITA is then accessible to view by: Regional WBA Panel DEMT Trainee

R EVISED ITA T IMING : W HAT WOULD THIS LOOK LIKE IN 2015? Australian Primary ITA Dates: Sunday 03 May 2015 Sunday 02 August 2015 Sunday 01 November 2015 Sunday 31 January 2016 New Zealand Primary ITA Dates: Sunday 08 March 2015 Sunday 07 June 2015 Sunday 06 September 2015 Sunday 06 December 2015

L EARNING N EEDS A NALYSIS (LNA) Separation of LNA process to allow focus on individual trainee learning plans and feedback. Retains the trainee self-assessment element, which is more appropriate for the LNA. Allows for flexibility in timing of LNA meetings (approx. start, mid and end of placement), as this process is separated from the ITA.

LNA P ROCESS (T RAINEE L EAD P ROCESS ) Placement Analysis Beginning of placement: Trainee completes LNA and identifies goals for placement Trainee arranges meeting with DEMT / Supervisor to discuss and agree goals for placement. Middle of placement (if >3/12): Trainee completes self-assessment Trainee arranges meeting with DEMT/Supervisor to discuss assessment of progress and review goals for remainder of placement. End of placement Trainee completes self-assessment Trainee arranges meeting with DEMT/Supervisor to discuss assessment of progress and suggest goals for future placements. Requirements Approved plan is for an LNA to be compulsory in any remediation time.

T RANSITION A RRANGEMENTS C URRENT ACEM T RAINEES

ITA T RUNCATION 2014 To facilitate the migration of existing training records to the revised Training Programme, the final term assessment of 2014 will be truncated. All trainees will be required to have an ITA at this time. Australia ITAs open for assessment on 8 December 2014 All ITAs must be completed by 5 January 2015

T RANSITION TO THE N EW A DVANCED T RAINING R EQUIREMENTS One-step process from current to new. All ACEM trainees receive pro-rata credit for the amount of ED time completed prior to 2015 Transition of current trainees by category: 1.Commencing Advanced Training on or after start of 2015: Required to complete all new requirements of Adv. Train. 2.Commenced Advanced Training and have completed FEx prior to 2015 Exempt from FEx (Written), FEx (Clinical) and all EM-WBAs 3.Commenced Advanced Training and have not completed FEx prior to 2015 Subject to the following transition arrangements.

T RANSITION A RRANGEMENTS : EM-WBA S C ALCULATION OF A DVANCED S TANDING Each trainee will transition at the start of 2015 Required to undertake EM-WBAs in all ED terms from ‘transition date’ onwards. Awarded Advanced Standing based amount of prior ED time completed to ‘transition date’. Calculated for each trainee individually Step 1.Calculate the number of weeks of ED time completed prior to his/her ‘transition date’. Step 2.Calculate the number of EM-WBAs that would now be expected in that amount of ED time. Minimum number of EM-WBAs required of all trainees, equivalent to 6 months of ED time
