BYOD Research Findings Improved motivation and engagement Greater independence and personalised learning Improved critical thinking, development of literacies in many areas Greater access to information, resources and experts Greater opportunities for collaboration beyond school walls

Which device? The device needs to be able to: access the school wireless access the internet and therefore also send and receiv voice record capture images and videos take notes hold a least six hours battery charge.

The iPad is our preferred device Instant on and off capability High-quality touch screen Good device speed Excellent wireless connectivity Long battery life Robust if in a strong case Portability Flexible when taking pictures and video

The iPad is our preferred device (2) Free top-class software now included: Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband Works with Office 365 and Google as well Excellent educational apps Compatibility and connectivity with the school's Mac desktop computers. Teacher familiarity with the iPad from their professional development.

Digital Citizenship Students and teachers need to be: Technically capable Digitally literate Socially responsible when online or using any modern communication technology.

Where and what else to buy? Please see guidance on the school website: Special pricing is available for MAGS families from several retailers. WINZ support may be available for WINZ families. A sturdy case is a must to avoid screen breakage. You may wish to consider insurance and an extended warranty.

What should you expect? Devices will not take over everything. They should be used when they are the best tool for an activity. Classes will still offer opportunities for students to continue to develop skills in other areas: speech making, team building, painting, fitness, etc. Teachers have been advised to start small and build the use of the device.

A few details Students are not to bring the device until their scheduled orientation lesson with me. They must know their Apple ID. Damage and theft measures are in place. Check what your insurance company will actually cover for theft and damage. For families who cannot provide a device for their child, the school will have loaner iPads available for use at school from 7.30am to 4.30pm.
