Christian Anthropology Objectives 1.Know of what man is composed 2.List the Consequences of Original Sin 3.Define:Protoevangellium

Original Justice Mastery over –H–Himself –n–nature Friendship w/ God Work is not a burden Naturally happy Man realizes he is alone God creates a “suitable companion”

Man in the Garden Material body Immaterial soul/ spirit –intellect –will Man encounters the world via his body through his senses The body and all creation is good

The Fall Tempted by Satan to eat the fruit from the tree in the center of the Garden Eve then Adam –Adam’s sin condemns us They realize they are naked!

Original Sin Loss of friendship w/ God Loss of control –Over self = Concupiscence –Over nature Sickness and death Work as burden Tension between man and woman Expulsion from the Garden

Protoevangellium The offense is against God who is infinite Man cannot repair the damage God could write man off Forget the offense – unjust God promises to send a redeemer This is the “1 st Good News!!!”

Reflection What if only Eve had eaten the fruit? Man is now inclined to evil –What does this say about human institutions? –How has the relationship between the sexes been affected? –How is death a remedy for sin? Why can’t man repair the break?
