THE OFFICE OF THE NI COMMISSIONER FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE Legislation: Commissioner for Children and Young People (NI) 2003 Order Primary Aim: ‘Safeguard and promote the rights and best interests of children and young people in Northern Ireland Remit: Children and Young people up to 18 years or 21 years if they have experience of care or a disability Required to have regard to UNCRC

NICCY: DUTIES, POWERS AND FUNCTIONS To keep under review and provide advice in relation to the adequacy and effectiveness of law, practice and services for children Provide assistance to a child making complaint to a relevant authority Investigatory powers with respect to relevant authorities Legal & Investigations, Policy & Research, Participation, Communications and Corporate Services
