Presentation transcript:

Social media first social media site was called Six Degrees and was created in Users were able to make profiles and make friends with other users. Since then the popularity of social media as grown and led to the sites we have today such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and so much more!

Personal Connection I let social media effect my self esteem I found myself asking questions like: –“Why can’t I get my body to look like hers?” –“Why can’t I be as beautiful as her?” –“What is wrong with me?”

The View From The Other Side Social has grown in popularity over the years. As it’s popularity has grown so has its effect on the self esteem of some of its users. Specifically girls. “The media is only going to get worse and put more pressure on the self body image of how it should “ideally” loo k.”- Amanda Von Schlegel

Supporting Points An article on hellogiggles.com by Monet Eliastam –“But social media itself is not the problem — it’s how we use it to curate our lives, posting our best moments and deleting the worst.” An article from CNN by DR. Melinda Ring –“In the past several years, we have seen many devastating stories of teenage suicide and their link with interactions on social media. But I think it would be a serious mistake to classify all social media as negative.” –“Research supports that social media can help friendships: 52% of teens report a positive impact, as opposed to only 4% saying it was a negative. Posting on Facebook and viewing one's profile may help improve self-esteem.”

Alternatives Follow accounts that make you laugh and feel good about yourself! Limit your time on social media or delete some accounts and realize there is more to life then likes! You’re beautiful the way you are!
