Auditor-in-Training Guidance for the Trainer and the AIT ASP 2009 Workshop September 14-17, 2009 Susan L. Aderholdt

Auditor-in-Training Each training event will be different! trainee’s (AIT) knowledge experience as an auditor familiarity with the DOECAP processes The following are guidelines to assist the trainer and the AIT and define the expectations of the program.

Auditor-in-Training After being notified that you will be training a new auditor: Contact that person and explain the pre-audit, audit, and post audit process and expectations Discuss the preparation process: – downloading pre-audit material from EDS – reviewing appropriate facility documents (facility SOPs in their audit area, QA plan, etc.) – reviewing the previous audit report, CAP, checklist, etc…

Auditor-in-Training Discuss how you intend to conduct the audit Get the trainee’s input Find out level of experience Trainer and AIT must participate in audit team pre-audit conference calls

Auditor-in-Training Trainers job is to guide AIT through the DOECAP auditing process AIT should have prior experience auditing AIT is on the audit to learn DOECAP process

Auditor-in-Training AIT --proceed as if the actual auditor – fill out checklist – write summary – write findings – write discussions – write observations Trainer– let AIT do as much of audit as able – fill out your own checklist – turn in both checklists to the lead auditor – assist AIT in writing process – explain expectations of the program

Auditor-in-Training If not using separate checklists, note which areas completed by AIT and which completed by auditor audit alongside AIT making your own notes as an auditor audit must not suffer because you are with AIT

Auditor-in-Training Allow AIT to do as much of the audit as possible, your job is to: – guide and assist when needed – point out things they missed – ask questions of the facility employees if trainee is not asking the correct questions or has gone off-track – make suggestions when necessary – point out things you have learned during your auditing experience with DOECAP

Auditor-in-Training DO NOT give half of the checklist to the AIT and send him/her off on their own Review, edit, and refine the audit report with the AIT Observe AIT abilities, strengths, and weaknesses

Auditor-in-Training Following audit, trainer and AIT will receive evaluation forms to fill out and return to DOECAP Operations Team Be honest, give your opinion of trainer’s/AIT’s abilities If you do not feel confident that AIT is ready to audit on their own recommend AIT perform a second audit as an AIT

Auditor-in-Training As always, if you have questions, please contact the DOECAP Operations Team
