Ingredient Protection beyond UV Absorption Ciba® TINOGARD® Q Ingredient Protection for Personal Care Excited State Quencher (ESQ™), A new technology to prevent light induced degradation Long-lasting product protection and stabilization Expanded product aesthetics and shelf life extension at low costs Exceptional synergies and boosting effects Ingredient Protection beyond UV Absorption

Mode of Action of TINOGARD® Q Molecule** (UV-)Light Molecule Degradation Products Molecules that absorb light are transferred into an excited state Via Energy dissipation molecules go back to the ground state A certain amount of molecules may degrade before energy dissipation * E x c i t e d S a o f M l u

Mode of Action of TINOGARD® Q (UV-)Light Molecule** UV Absorber Molecule Degradation Products Less UV Light = less decomposition reactions * E x c i t e d S a o f M l u

Mode of Action of TINOGARD® Q (UV-)Light Molecule** ESQ™ Molecule Degradation Products ESQ™ de-activates reactive excited states & transfers molecules to stable ground state * E x c i t e d S a o f M l u

Mode of Action of TINOGARD® Q (UV-)Light Molecule** ESQ™ UV Absorber Molecule Degradation Products UV Absorber absorbs high energy light & ESQ™ de-activates reactive excited states * E x c i t e d S a o f M l u

Mode of Action of Ciba® ESQ™ Technology Picture taken under UV Light:

Product Stabilization Techniques For Personal Care Traditional Mode of Stabilization Ultraviolet Light Absorption Utilized Benzophenone and Benzotriazoles Sometimes high concentration requirements Limited synergies Associated costs for formulators New Mode of Stabilization (Excited State Quencher) ESQ™ Does not act as Ultraviolet Light Absorption New Chemistry Novel/Unique Approach Lower concentration requirements Exhibits strong boosting effects Better at less costs! ESQ™ - Revolutionary performance vs. state-of-the-art chemistries

Comprehensive Protection Light forces molecules into highly reactive and/or instable excited states: Reduction of molecules in excited states enhances light stability. UV-B Absorbers reduce excited states caused by UV-B light. Broad-band UV Absorbers reduce excited states caused by UV-B and UV-A light.  TINOGARD Q based on ESQ™ technology reduces the lifetime of excited states, initiated by any light or energy, thereby stabilizing the ground state. Additionally it exhibits secondary benefits like radical scavenging. Combining broad-band UV Absorbers e.g. Cibafast H Liq. with TINOGARD Q results in highly effective stabilizer systems.
