Weekly Pbar Report 10/2 → 10/9

Stacking This Week …

Downtime / Access … Saturday 10/3 (~3 hrs) An LCW hose on A6Q12 split. 360 Gal of LCW was lost. At the same time, 2 LCW leaks formed in A:LQ, a quadrupole power supply in the AP50 service building (~3 hrs). DRF1 (bunch rotation RF system in the Debuncher) had PA tubes replaced on two stations. Movable stand in A50 repaired (broken wire). Tuesday 10/6 (~3 hrs) A Transport access was made to repair a broken BPM and a bad connector on ion pump IP713. AP0 water cage work – conductivity monitor for Lithium Lens replaced, and worked on remote LCW filling system. Measured inductance of A3B7 dipole and determined magnet has an intermittent turn-to-turn short. Impact on operations is 1-2% overall, so if this does not get worse, we can live with it for a while.

Accumulator → Recycler Transfers What we gained in stacking this week hurt overall transfer efficiency (larger emittances and core momentum widths) but this is more than made up for in stackrate. Further improvements to the Stacktail monitor software will help. The orbit distortion problems caused by A3B7 do cause problems, but overall efficiency is only hurt by 1-2%.

Studies / Tuning … Routine tuning … Stacktail cooling monitor software modified to be more efficient with smaller stacks. ~3% improvement to stacking below 30.0mA. Experimented with 95F LCW temperature to try and lessen the frequency of Accumulator orbit distortion problem. Although there were effects, they were not operationally better so the water temperature has been returned to normal.

Study/Access Requests … Continue Debuncher phasing as time permits (~6 hrs, low priority). A tunnel access is required to repair a switch before momentum system phasing can be completed. Testing of lithium lens remote water fill system (5 hrs?) Pull new cable for Ion pump D:IP403 (2 hrs, low priority). Repair ODH fan in 60 sector (FESS, 3 hrs?).
