Type of School Urban Title 1 Traditional School A: Is student centered and the kids a birth to 5 years old Schoo1 B: Is student center but middle school age that requires testing and more discipline problems. Total Population/Demographics 420 students 30-daycare,30-pre-K, 100 headstart, 230 –kindergartners, 85 % African American, 10% white, 5% Spanish 740 students 250 students in each grade School A: smaller school setting School School B: larger school setting Student to Teacher Ratio Daycare 2:10 Pre-K 2:10 Headstart 2:20 Kindergarten 2:25 4 th grade1:24 5 th grade1:24 6 th grade1:24 School A: Smaller school but more staff required because of age School B: Larger school but the support staff is limited because of teacher budget Key Issues Facing Finding Qualified teachers, class size, and keeping up with data, students entering not prepared Loss of instructional time because discipline issues, too much time on paperwork, reading levels are too low School A: Students are not ready to enter Kindergarten and Technology is not being used at home School B: Discipline problems are high that interfere learning Role of Technology Technology is to used to test readiness skills Serves as a aid to enhance learning School A: Computers are used to provide data and enhance learning School B: Computers are used to enhance learning and test 21st Century SkillsLearning and Innovation Skills, Information, Media, and Technology skills Learning and Innovation Skills/ Information, Media, and Technology skills/life and career skills School A: Focus on learning skills and information School B: Technology and life skills

LESSON PLAN AND DESIGN Research is one of the most important components in effective teaching and learning A good lesson plan begins with good learning objective Use your state standards(Common Core State Standards)as well as Bloom’s Taxonomy Learning Objectives are Critical to Planning Effective Instruction The ideal is to challenge your students with higher-level learning objective, questions, and assessments, as well as prepare them for the growing amount of higher-level questions and problems provided in testing situations.

MY EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY ROLE OF THE TEACHER, PARENT, AND LEARNER As a Teacher… Being fair and honest is the most important foundation for building a trusting, respectful, and cooperative learning environment As a Parent… Making they get there children to school daily and holding them accountable for their mistakes but they learn responsibility for their actions As a Learner… By making correct choices and being eager to learn and remain active in the learning process

ASSESSMENT MATTERS When becoming a educator you find that assessment is an integral part of instruction, as it determines whether or not the goals of education are being met Assessment affects….. Grades Placement Advancement Instructional needs Curriculum Funding Two Types of Assessments… Formative –provides feedback and information during the instruction process. Summative-take place after the learning has been completed
